Albanien
DEH var aktiv i Albanien hovedsagelig i tiåret fra 1994-2005, hvor vi arbejdede med at udvikle og implementere en psykiatri reform model. Projekterne havde flere aktivitet komponenter under det overordnede mål at de-institutionalisere de psykiatriske tjenester til patienter i de psykiatriske hospitaler:
Lokal- og distriktpsykiatriske tjenester
Rehabilitering og omorganisere langtidse afdelinger
Uddannelse af personale i de psykiatrien, især på afdelinger på det psykiatriske hospital i Tirana
Ergoterapi og uddannelse for patienter
Etablering af et klubhus/Fountain House i Tirana
Advocacy af rettighederne for mennesker med psykiske sygdomme
Udvikling Child Development Center forbørne og ungdomspsykiatrisk behandling
Pilot model for gruppe hjem for unge med psykisk sygdom
ALBANIA
TEH was active in Albania mainly during the decade from 1994-2005 where we worked with developing and implementing a psychiatric reform model. The projects had several activity components under the overall aim to de-institutionalize the psychiatric services for patients in the psychiatric hospitals:
Community based psychiatry services
Rehabilitating and re-organising long term wards
Training of staff in the psychiatric services
Occupational therapy and education
Establishing a Club House in Tirana
Advocacy of the rights of people with mental illnesses
Developing Child Development Centre for child an adolescent psychiatry services
Pilot model for group home for young people with mental illness
The conditions in the psychiatric hospitals in Albania were very inhumane and filthy. Youngsters from the age of 12-13 years were placed in the locked wards. And the unsanitary conditions and run-down buildings were not for human living. They also sent a message to the surrounding community that the people staying here were worthless creatures. | |||
Just the smell was almost unbearable | |||
The task was complex: To improve the conditions To improve services To advocate the rights of people with mental illnesses | |||
And to do it in a way that obtained the support of the staff, the management, and the political systam | |||
After two years preparation the ground was prepared to get started with the hard work of transition and psychiatric reform | |||
